This is shoddy work by the Almanac.

"He is not endorsed by any current council members, who split 2-2 on many issues, so Mr. DeGolia could be a swing vote."

Definition of "endorse": "To declare one's public approval or support of".

Elizabeth Lewis signed Rick De Golia's papers to run for council. This is a public document. It is an obvious endorsement.

Did Rick De Golia tell the Almanac this fib? This endorsement based on a false statement will undoubtedly affect votes for the two other candidates.

The Almanac should rescind this endorsement if De Golia informed them he was not endorsed.

[The editorial cited notes that Mr. DeGolia was not endorsed by any members of the City Council. That is correct: His publicized endorsement list does not include any current council members. Some residents contend that Mayor Elizabeth Lewis did endorse Mr. DeGolia when she, along with 19 other residents, signed his nomination papers. We do not agree, and we stand by our statement and our endorsement of Mr. DeGolia for the Atherton City Council]

Signing a nomination paper is not declaring one's approval of a candidate in public, i.e., an endorsement? That's nonsense. I do agree that Mr. De Golia has chosen not to list Ms. Lewis on his website list of endorsers. To me, at least, that detracts from his integrity and an otherwise attractive candidate instead of, as the Almanac has hinted at in their clarification above, resolve the issue.
