"Elisir" — or "The Elixir or Love" — is being sung in Italian, with supertitles from a new translation prepared by West Bay's general director Jose Luis Moscovich, who also conducts the opera orchestra. It features Venezuelan soprano Maria Fernanda Brea as Adina and tenor Chester Pidduck as Nemorino.
Baritone Igor Vieira sings the role of the huckster Dr. Dulcamara, and baritone Krassen Karagiozov is Belcore, the military sergeant who is set to wed Adina until she admits she's really in love with the impoverished peasant Nemorino. And love-struck Nemorino? He's convinced Adina loves him because he swallowed the love potion sold to him by the quack Dr. Dulcamara.
The production, directed by David Cox, is being staged at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.
The Saturday performance is at 8 p.m. A Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m.
