Talk on history of recorded sound

Jerry McBride, head librarian of the Braun Music Library at Stanford, will give a presentation on the "History of Recorded Sound" at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Menlo Park council chambers in the Civic Center.

He will discuss Stanford's collection of more than 300,000 items of historical interest. Recordings include speeches by John F. Kennedy, Winston Churchill and Will Rogers, readings by poets such as T.S. Eliot, and radio broadcasts from the 1940s.

The event is part of the Menlo Park Library's Saturday program series.

For a free van service for Menlo Park seniors and people with disabilities, guests can call 650-330-2512.

These Saturday programs are made possible by the Friends of the Menlo Park Library and the Frances Mack Trust.

The Civic Center is at 701 Laurel St.
