Letter: Dogs lost at Stanford end up at San Martin shelter

We found out the hard way that if your dog gets loose on the Stanford campus they do not take the dog to the Palo Alto Shelter, nor even the Santa Clara shelter.

They have a contract with the "high-kill-rate" San Martin shelter down near Gilroy.

Even if, as I did, you call the Stanford police, this is where your dog will end up and possibly die. A reasonable person would check with the San Mateo, Palo Alto and Santa Clara humane societies, but no one would even contemplate the San Martin shelter. This contract that Stanford has needs to be changed.
