Daniel H. Goodman, 98, died at his home on August 23, 2014. Dan was born on August 11, 1916, to Samuel and Rae Goodman in El Paso, Texas. After high school, Dan worked at various jobs in El Paso before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in May 1941. He was already on active duty when the United States entered World War II. He rose from seaman to the commissioned rank of Lieutenant JG.
Dan married Helena Wasserman on August 12, 1942, while he was stationed in San Diego. Several months later, Dan was shipped overseas to the South Pacific and did not return until 1945.
After being demobilized in September 1945, Dan was in the first wave of veterans to enter the University of California, Berkeley, when he was 29 years old. University of California awarded him a B.S., cum laude, in 1949; an M.S. in 1951; and a Ph.D. in 1954, all in Electrical Engineering. Dan was elected to membership in the Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi honor societies.
Dan worked in the engineering and aerospace industries on the Peninsula and in the Los Angeles area until 1971, when he and Helena started Goodco Press, Inc., in Mountain View, California. They ran the business until 1984, when they retired and it was taken over by their daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Paul Kraus.
Dan was pre-deceased by Helena in 1998. He is survived by his sister, Paula Rosen; Leslie and Paul; his son and daughter-in-law, Kennard M. Goodman and Johnene Granger; and his three grandchildren, Samantha, Charles, and Jacob.
