Volunteers set up an evacuation center in East Palo Alto for 15 adults and four children after a fire at a two-unit home Thursday morning, an American Red Cross spokeswoman said. The center was opened at the Faith Missionary Baptist Church at 835 Runnymede St.
The one-alarm blaze affected two units at a home on Buchanan Court just before 10 a.m., according to a San Mateo County fire dispatcher. The fire was put out by 10:30 a.m., however residents at the home were not able to return immediately, Red Cross spokeswoman Cynthia Shaw said.
Four dogs were also rescued in the fire, she said.
