 | Stephen Waarts, age 16, will be solo violinist Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, when the Silicon Valley Symphony performs in concert in Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
Stephen, a resident of Los Altos and a sophomore at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, will play Prokofiev's "Violin Concerto No. 1" and "two great show pieces," according to Michael Gibson, music director of the symphony.
This is the sixth time Stephen has performed as the soloist with the symphony. "We first featured Stephen back in November of 2008, when he was only 12 years old, playing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto," said Mr. Gibson, who added that he is "destined to be one of the world's great violinists."
The concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave. in Palo Alto; and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 330 Ravenswood Ave., Menlo Park.
Tickets ($15-$20) may be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to the concert.
