 | Menlo College reached its second straight Cal Pac women's basketball tournament championship game with its 85-67 win over Cal State Maritime on Saturday.
The win is Menlo's 13th in a row and their 11th over a Cal Pac opponent. Menlo put it together in the second half and went on a run down the stretch to extend their lead and earn the decisive victory.
Menlo and the Keelhaulers were involved in a closely contested, physical battle during the first half.
The Oaks shot 36 percent from the field but were able to maintain an edge with an impressive effort on the boards and stingy defense.
Menlo outrebounded Cal State Maritime, 25-19, including nine on the offensive boards, and forced eight turnovers, taking a 35-33 advantage into the intermission.
Jenna Marinaro hit a 3-pointer and Laurel Donnenwirth made a layup to open the second half but it still took a late run in the final five minutes to put the game away.
The Lady Oaks went on an 18-5 run to seal the deal and stamp their ticket into Tuesday's tournament championship game.
Menlo got tremendous efforts on the offensive end from multiple players including Jolise Limcaco and Lauren Adamek, who each scored 20 points.
Donnenwirth and Sareen Ohanian each added double digit scoring efforts in the win with 14 and 12 points respectively.
While their defense and rebounding kept the Lady Oaks in it through their early offensive struggles, the Lady Oaks came out on fire in the second half. Menlo shot a blistering 55 percent in the final 20 minutes.
The Cal Pac tournament championship game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
William Jessup knocked off Simpson, 63-49, on Saturday to earn its spot in the finals against Menlo.
