Tonight: Menlo Park housing plan workshop
Second workshop to be held on Wednesday

Bookmark and Share
Tonight the Menlo Park community has another chance to weigh in on where the city should add high-density housing zones. A public workshop will take place at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center at 700 Alma Street at 7:30 p.m.

The city must identify enough areas to accommodate space for 1,000 units as part of a lawsuit settlement in May 2012 over its non-compliance with state law. While the city is not required to actually build the units, the settlement dictates that it must provide incentives for developers to do so.

State law requires cities to assess and plan to meet their fair share of regional housing needs, which includes affordable housing, every seven years. Menlo Park hasn't met the state requirements since 1992, but must finish updating its housing plan and get the state's stamp of approval by May 2013.

Learn more on the city's housing element website. Another workshop will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Menlo Park Senior Center at 100 Terminal Street at 7:30 p.m.
