Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, will host a campaign fundraiser at his Palo Alto home for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Feb. 13, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Christie, a Republican who does not toe the party line and speaks his mind, received accolades for his handling of the Hurricane Sandy disaster in New Jersey and was an outspoken critic of his own party's foot dragging after emergency-funding relief for flood victims was delayed.

He also dared to be seen with and to praise Democratic President Barack Obama for his handling of the disaster during its immediate aftermath.

As his campaign for gubernatorial re-election swings into gear, an inaugural stop-off in California at Zuckerberg's home could draw much attention in the state, where Christie plans to travel for other fundraisers when he arrives in February.

His relationship with Zuckerberg goes back to 2010, when the 28-year-old social-networking mogul donated $100 million to Newark, N.J., schools. Christie and Zuckerberg share a common passion for education reform.

Christie and Zuckerberg have linked up on other occasions. The governor also spoke at a Facebook town hall event.

Some pundits have speculated about whether Christie could become a candidate for the 2016 presidential election. He has strong support in California and support from Zuckerberg is certain to raise his visibility in the state should he make a bid for the presidency, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Zuckerberg's political leanings are not well defined. His electoral registration notes that he has no party preference. He voted in the 2008 and 2012 general elections, according to the Santa Clara County's registrar of voters, the Wall Street Journal reported.

But he showed support for Obama and attended a dinner with him and Silicon Valley tech leaders in 2011. Obama also appeared at a Facebook live-streamed town hall meeting in 2011 at what was then the company's Palo Alto campus.
