In 1969, about 100 demonstrators, angry about weapons development at the Stanford Research Institute, marched around the SRI campus in Menlo Park.
Many of the protesters, which included a number of Stanford students, were arrested, but it was just the beginning of a fight that peaked in 1971 when members of the Venceramos organization turned out in force at a Menlo Park City Council meeting.

Posted by neighbor, a resident of another community, on Jan 2, 2013 at 6:32 pm Over 40 years and 3 wars ago, 100 people attended a demonstration. What is the reason for this story?
How about some actual community NEWS?

Posted by Steve, a resident of the Menlo Park: Central Menlo Park neighborhood, on Jan 7, 2013 at 1:16 pm The Almanac has regularly posted historic pictures from Menlo Park's past, thanks to contributions from the MP Historical Association Web Link. I love seeing these historical snapshots showing how MP was years ago and what issues residents of our town had to cope with.
The SRI demonstrations are part of that history and the photo reminds us of something most up us had forgotten, if we ever knew.
I'm glad the Almanac continues to remind us of the rich history of our town.
