Court appearance by shovel-carrying man arrested in Woodside

Bookmark and Share
Milo Mcintosh Imrie, the man allegedly walking in Woodside and "armed with a shovel", was in court on Monday, Dec. 17, five days after his arrest.

Attorneys were in court to file motions associated with charges against Mr. Imrie of attempting to disarm a police officer and of assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury, prosecutors said in a report.

Mr. Imrie, 23, a military veteran believed to be suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, is in the county jail on bail of $25,000, prosecutors said. Mr. Imrie is represented by Redwood City criminal defense attorney Geoff Carr and his next court appearance is set for Wednesday, Dec. 19.

The situation on Dec. 12 turned ugly and then violent in the Woodside home of Mr. Imrie's 22-year-old cousin, according to the report. Mr. Imrie, while holding a gasoline can, reportedly told his cousin that he planned to kill him and himself either with a knife or by dousing them both with gasoline and igniting it, prosecutors said.

The cousin took the gasoline can away from Mr. Imrie, the report said. When the cousin went into the kitchen to wash his hands, he noticed the butcher block contained knives, which he took outside and threw up on to the roof. But while his back was turned, Mr. Imrie hit him once on the back with the shovel and fled, prosecutors said.

Deputies found the defendant at the Menlo Country Club on Woodside Road opposite Woodside High School, where he reportedly resisted arrest and tried to remove a gun from one of the deputies, prosecutors said. The next day, in transit after being released from a psychiatric evaluation hold, he ran away when the door of the patrol car was open. Deputies caught and quickly subdued him, prosecutors said.
