Does the state owe you money?
Tax board seeks to return $14 million in undelivered refunds

Bookmark and Share
The state Franchise Tax Board is urging Bay Area residents who may have moved or not updated their addresses to check if the state owes them any income tax refunds.

The board announced this week that it is holding more than $14 million in refunds statewide. Nearly 48,000 refunds, ranging from $1 to $35,000, were returned by the U.S. Postal Service, board officials said.

Taxpayers expecting a state refund that has yet to arrive can check their status by clicking here.

Those who have moved and have not yet updated their address can also do so online. The board reissues returned refunds automatically once a new address is filed.

When filing future tax returns, the board advises using direct deposit to avoid mailing complications.

This year, according to officials, more than six million Californians received more than $6.2 billion in tax returns that went directly to their bank accounts.

In all, by the end of November, the board issued more than 10 million refunds worth about $10 billion.
