Late Saturday afternoon, a man found his wait for a bus in Menlo Park interrupted by a violent confrontation.

Around 4 p.m. on Nov. 24, the 20-year-old victim was waiting along the 1400 block of El Camino Real when an older man demanded money. Refused, the 48-year-old suspect smacked the man in the face and grabbed half of the victim's cash --$2, police said.

Police caught up with the thief shortly thereafter. The money returned to its owner, while the suspect was held for a 72-hour mental evaluation, according to the report.
