| The sun will continue to shine on the trunk of the Resurrection Tree at Ford Field in Portola Valley, but it will no longer be vertical.
What was left of the tree's verticality -- it was so weak that it had to be braced in April 2008 -- ended on Nov. 13 when workers felled it.
At the direction of the Town Council, workers cut off the foliage and dismembered the upper branches before lopping off the trunk, a portion of which will lie in the field to succumb to the recycling forces of nature.
The old oak had survived previous scrapes with imminent demise as it overlooked the Little League home team dugout. The foliage showed vigor to the end but the massive trunk had long been hollow, decayed and dangerous, arborists said.
