Habitat for Humanity gives homes to new owners
Five Menlo Park and East Palo Alto families benefit

Bookmark and Share
Five Menlo Park and East Palo Alto families will get keys to new homes on Saturday (Nov. 17), thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

The nonprofit renovated the homes as part of its Neighborhood Revitalization Program, which helps revitalize neighborhoods destabilized by home foreclosure to create homeownership opportunities for local working families. Habitat has so far purchased 15 foreclosed homes in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park as part of the program. Local families donate 500 hours of sweat equity alongside volunteers to rehabilitate the homes, which they then purchase from the nonprofit with a zero-percent interest, zero-down mortgage.

The Nov. 17 event features a dedication ceremony attended by Habitat staff and volunteers and a home tour, along with free refreshments from Cafe Zoe. It starts at 10 a.m. at 220 Market Place in Menlo Park.

Habitat for humanity volunteers do a great job.

Lots of new hardware and supplies get donated to Habitat, and the extras get sold at Habitat for Humanity Restore in San Carlos.

The hardware, appliances, and building materials are generally new or are less than 5-years old. This is a great resource, and sales help Habitat for Humanity. I'm just a customer, no official connection to Habitat or Restore.
