Sunday: Olive harvest at Sacred Heart
|
What do you do when life hands you olive trees? If you're part of the Sacred Heart Schools community, you make olive oil -- and bottle it to raise a little money for school programs.
Sacred Heart Schools' third annual olive harvest is set for Sunday, Nov. 18, from 8 a.m. to dusk. Students, parents and staff will hand harvest the fruit from the Atherton campus' 50 century-year-old trees through the day, and at about 3 p.m. there will be an olive pressing.
Dan Flynn, director of the Olive Center at UC Davis, will conduct and olive oil tasting, and Michael Schley, executive chef at the schools, will prepare a variety of tasting dishes highlighting olive oil, according to Millie Lee, the schools' spokeswoman.
The oil will be sold at Sacred Heart Prep's Christmas boutique to support athletic events. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
