For the first time in 38 years the Palo Alto Concours d'Elegance is searching for a new home outside its past venue at Stanford's athletic practice fields.

An annual car show that raises funds for local charities, the committee for the 47-year-old event is considering locations in the area from Redwood City to San Jose. Without one, they would "probably close their doors," stated Christine Cheshire, executive director of the Concours, in a press release.

Since its founding by members of the Palo Alto Host Lions Club, the event has raised and donated more than $1.78 million to more than 41 charities.

Criteria for a venue include a minimum of 3 acres of grass, fenced off and serviced by ample parking. It also requires a long-term commitment, similar to that supplied by Stanford University until the school changed its policy.

The Concours historically takes place on the 4th Sunday of June. The Concours has also made yearly donations to Stanford University's Endowment Fund for student scholarships.
