Menlo College sweeps player of week honors in soccer

 | The Menlo College men's soccer team swept California Pacific Conference honors with Andrew Cota and Alex Palomarez taking home awards after leading the Oaks to a pair of victories last week.
Cota was honored with second Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week award this season while Palomarez earned his third Defensive Player of the Week honor.
A native of Santa Clara, Cota had 10 shots -- eight of which were on goal -- and three goals for the Oaks in two matches last week. As of Sept. 28, Cota was tied for fourth in the conference in goals (six) and sixth in points (13).
The Oaks posted a 3-2 win over La Sierra University in Riverside on Friday and won by the same score against Soka University in Aliso Viejo on Sunday.
Palomarez, a native of Fremont, had 10 saves and allowed four goals in the two victories last week. He was third in the conference in goals against average (1.4), tied for third in shutouts (1) and ninth in saves per match (4.33)
The Oaks have two matches this week as they start Cal Pac play Wednesday against visiting Pacific Union College at 3 p.m., and will take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Atherton on Saturday at 4 p.m.
In women's volleyball, Menlo sophomore Courtney Calicdan had 24 kills and 28 digs in two Cal Pac matches last weekend and was selected as the Cal Pac Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.
Menlo won, 3-1, over Simpson University on Friday in Atherton and won, 3-0, over Pacific Union College on Saturday in Angwin. As of Sept. 27, Calicdan was first in the conference in hitting percentage (.274), second in service aces per set (.4), ninth in kills (2.29) and 10th in points (2.77).
Menlo College has two home matches this week, Friday against NCAA Division III member Mills College and Saturday against UC Merced.
