 | A memorial service for Hilda Margaret Wade, a resident of Menlo Park for 76 years, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, on what would have been her 100th birthday, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1095 Cloud Ave. in Menlo Park. Ms. Wade died Sept. 5 at age 99.
She was a member of one of nine families that formed Bethany Lutheran Church in Menlo Park in 1950.
Hilda Margaret Wiemers was born on a farm in Poole, Nebraska. At age 20, she left the farm and moved to Kearney, Nebraska, where she met her future husband, Merlin. Together, they traveled to California and were married in 1934 in Redwood City.
In 1936, she and her husband, Merlin, and son, Norman, moved to College Avenue in Menlo Park, where she lived until her death.
Ms. Wade was very active in Bethany Luthern Church, holding many positions, including serving as president of the Mary Martha Guild.
She is survived by her son, Norman; sister Viola of Kearny, Nebraska; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
