Peninsula College Fund awards scholarships

The Peninsula College Fund, a Menlo Park based organization that helps local first-generation minority students attend college, has announced its 2012 scholarship recipients.

Fourteen high school seniors from East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City will receive not only financial support in the form of a $12,000 scholarship, but one-on-one mentoring and guidance, as well.

An awards ceremony honoring the scholarship winners was held June 23 at Sacred Heart Prepatory School at 150 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton.

Following are the names of the recipients followed by their high school and the college they plan to attend.

Suleyme Agarcia, East Palo Alto Academy, San Jose State University; Katherine Garcia, Eastside College Preparatory, Loyola Marymount University; Lauren Longmire, Eastside College Preparatory, University of California at Riverside; Karina Macias, Eastside College Preparatory, St. Mary's College; Cristian Diaz, Menlo-Atherton High School, University of California at Merced; Diana Lopez Solorzano, Menlo-Atherton, Norte Dame de Namur University; Alexandra Cota, Sequioa High School, Norte Dame de Namur University; Adrian Esqueda, Sequioa High School, University of California at Santa Cruz; Javier Guzman, Sequioa High School, San Jose State University; Yxenia Contreras Sequioa High School, University of California at Santa Barbara; and Martin Esquivias, Seuioa High School, University of California at Santa Cruz.
