Menlo Park: Willow Road goes green

A crew from the city of Menlo Park installed new green bike lanes on Willow Road between Middlefield Road and U.S. 101 on June 26.

The eye-catching lanes, like those recently added along Alpine Road as it passes under Interstate 280, are designed to heighten awareness of cyclists along busy streets.

The city also plans to paint green lanes along Haven Avenue and other selected sites.

Why no love for East Menlo? Will the green bike lane be extended out to Bayshore eventually?

I hope they have also removed the planting barriers from the bike lanes. They are a real hazard to the unwary, as they are not even painted to attract the rider's attention. I think they were installed to prevent people from passing on the right, but they are also a nuisance.

I used to bike that route every day - I ended up going out of my way to use the pedestrian overpass and Ringwood because willow is so horrible.
I think the areas mentioned will be helped by the green paint, but the planters also need to be removed or marked, and there needs to be a bike lane on the 101 overpass, similar to the bike lane and markings on Sandhill over 280
