Tonight: Corporate center goes before Menlo Park Planning Commission

Draft environmental and financial impact analyses released

Menlo Park has been hoping to see more action in the city's M-2 industrial zone for about as long as it's wanted to revitalize El Camino Real. Tonight, the Planning Commission will discuss the draft environmental and financial impact analyses for a project that will bring that hope closer to fruition.

The Sobrato Organization wants to build a corporate center at 151 Commonwealth Drive and 164 Jefferson Drive, near U.S. 101. The company proposes to merge the lots into a single 13.3-acre site and construct two steel and glass four-story office buildings.

At 259,920 square feet total, the office buildings would reach up to 62 feet in height, nearly double the current limit for the M-2 district. Other concerns include traffic, particularly along segments of Marsh Road and Chilco Street.

The March 24 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the council chambers in the Civic Center at 701 Laurel St. Watch the meeting live online via the city's website.

Sort of scary to think that some day people hiking Bayfront Park won't be able to see or even realize that there are foothills with fog rolling over them.

Let them build in the middle of 101. It will slow down traffic, reduce traffic collisions and inspire the use of sometimes reliable mass transit. Let's rename 101. How about Bay 101. Is that name already taken?
