Humane Society offers reward for information about abandoned, injured puppy

The Peninsula Human Society is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those who abandoned a wounded pit bull puppy in East Palo Alto earlier this month.

The 10-week-old male puppy was found barely alive on the sidewalk of Cooley Avenue and Bell Street at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 1.

According to the humane society, the puppy had apparently been attacked by several other dogs and suffered massive injuries, which included lacerations, multiple bite wounds and muscle damage.

It appeared the dog had been attacked at another location earlier that day and transported to the intersection where he was found.

A Good Samaritan found the animal and brought it to the PSH/SPCA in Burlingame, but it died later that night.

The black-and-white spotted puppy was not neutered and did not have identification, though his toenails were trimmed, indicating that he had been a pet, according to the PHS.

The PHS/SPCA is investigating the case as criminal neglect by the owner who failed to provide veterinary care to an injured puppy. The agency is also investigating a connection with dog fighting.

Anyone who might have had a puppy stolen or with any information about the case is urged to call PHS/SPCA investigator Christina Hanley at (650) 393-9281.
