Menlo School in Atherton is hosting the first annual Valpo Fun Run this Sunday, Sept. 29, to raise money and awareness for the Peninsula Bridge Program.
The 5K walk/run will start at the loop on the Menlo campus at 50 Valparaiso Ave. at 9:30 a.m. and follow a course on Alejandra, Emilie, Valparaiso, Elena, Isabella and Britton avenues.
Organizers say 360 runners have preregistered. Runners may register that morning and pay $25 for adults and $20 for students 18 and under.
Free food will be served and prizes will be awarded to the top males and females in the following categories: adult, high school, middle school, and elementary school. Prizes will also be given to runners wearing the best costume and showing the most spirit.
Both Menlo School and Sacred Heart Schools participate in the Peninsula Bridge summer program, which is designed to provide academic and enrichment courses to local middle school students from under-resourced communities.
For the past 10 years, Menlo and Sacred Heart have played football against each other in the Valpo Bowl to raise funds for Bridge. That match is scheduled for Nov. 15.
