The Las Lomitas School District is seeking applicants for an open school board seat after board member Ann Jaquith turned in her resignation last week.
Ms. Jaquith resigned after the Aug. 14 board meeting, citing family reasons. She was elected to the board in 2010. Her replacement will serve out her term, which ends November 2014.
District residents who wish to apply for a seat on the five-member board have until noon Sept. 18. To be eligible, an applicant must be 18 or older and a registered voter, and must live within the district's boundaries.
Candidates will be interviewed by the board in open session on Sept. 24.
Board members are inviting anyone interested in applying for the seat to a panel discussion on the roles and responsibilities of serving on the board. The discussion will be on Sept. 11 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the La Entrada Middle School multi-use room, 2200 Sharon Road in Menlo Park.
Those interested in applying for the board seat may call Superintendent Lisa Cesario at 854-2880.
The district's two schools are Las Lomitas (K-3)in Atherton and La Entrade (4-8) in Menlo Park.
In her resignation letter, Ms. Jaquith cited her parents' failing health and her need to help care for them as her reason for leaving the board. "Unfortunately, this demand upon my time is competing with my ability to fulfill my responsibilities and commitments to the school district in the manner that I would like."
Ms. Jaquith praised the district's "many passionate teachers who care deeply about learning," and the committed staff and parent community. "I leave at a time when the leadership of the school district is in very capable hands and when much work is in progress to realize the vision for the school district laid out in the strategic plan adopted in February 2012."
