A 32-year-old man was shot in the face in the early hours of July 5 in what police said was a possible road-rage incident. The shooting occurred just after a night of illegal July Fourth celebratory fireworks throughout the city had died down.
Officers arrived at 1017 Beech St. after a reported shooting at 12:46 a.m. and found a man sitting on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his face. The man, an East Palo Alto resident, was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.
Preliminary statements from the victim and witness were conflicting and changed several times. After several versions, it appeared the shooting might have occurred after a car crash that turned into road rage, police said.
Several hours later East Palo Alto detectives located a vehicle that might have been involved. People inside the vehicle also gave conflicting statements, police said. The person or persons involved in the original incident are unknown and have not been located.
Police are asking those who may have witnessed or have any knowledge of the incident to contact the East Palo Alto Police Department by sending an anonymous email to email@example.com or an anonymous text from a cell phone to 650-409-6792.
