The topic of gun legislation, and the Senate's failure this week to pass a bill to strengthen the nation's gun laws, will be the subject of a Saturday community meeting hosted by U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo in Palo Alto.
Eshoo, D-18th District, will be joined by Rep. Mike Thompson, D-5th District, who chaired the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave. It is open to the public.
The meeting comes days after the U.S. Senate killed a number of gun-control measures, including one that would have expanded background checks for gun buyers and that would have banned assault weapons. The proposals, which gained momentum in the aftermath of December's school shooting in Newtown, failed to meet the Senate's 60-vote threshold in a series of votes Wednesday.
