Procrastinating wanna-be planning commissioners living in Woodside's District 2 have one more chance to put their names on the table.
The deadline for applying for the position now held by Leslie Stepp had been January 22. At a February 9 meeting, however, the Woodside Town Council deadlocked over a vote to reappoint Ms. Stepp, while defeating the nomination of Joe Kirley, the only other candidate who had applied for the position.
Last week, at its February 23 meeting, the Town Council unanimously voted to reopen the application period for the seat. Mayor Pete Sinclair was absent.
"In view of ... my hope that I can produce a couple more applicants, I think it would be appropriate to reopen," said Councilman John Blake, who represents District 2.
Residents of District 2, which includes the area west of Albion and Manuella avenues, the Bear Gulch and Kings Mountain areas, will now have until March 29 to apply for the four-year commission term.
An application has already been received from Larry Israel, who held the seat until he resigned a little over a year ago. Mr. Israel, the president and CEO of TeleSensory Corp., ran unopposed for Town Council in November 1997, but lost to write-in candidate John Blake.
In the meantime, Ms. Stepp's nomination for reappointment still must be voted on when the nomination period closes.
Two other Planning Commission seats are also open. In District 3, where Commissioner Sandra Surber has resigned because she is moving from Woodside, two nominations had been received by the February 26 deadline. They are from Mountain Home resident and Bicycle Committee member Tom Koos, a regulatory specialist at Stanford University; and Susan Boynton, a Smoke Tree Lane resident, former Trails Committee member, and owner and human resource and marketing manager for Midland Cabinet Company.
An appointment to the District 3 seat is scheduled to be made on March 23.
In District 6, which covers Woodside Heights, Quail Meadows, the area east of Canada Road to Neuman Lane, and east of Mountain Home and Manzanita roads, longtime commissioner Ursula Eisenhut is not seeking reappointment. The filing period is open until Friday, March 5. As of last Friday there were no applicants.
The Planning Commission meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
