Exhibits

'Night, Smoke and Shadows'
This exhibition, named "Night, Smoke and Shadows: The Presence of Atmosphere in the 19th Century," includes prints, drawings and photographs by artists such as James McNeill Whistler, Max Klinger, Felicien Rops and Alvin Langdon Coburn. Wednesday-Sunday, May 14-Oct. 5, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursdays til 8 p.m. (after September 21, the center will also be open Mondays). Free. Cantor Arts Center, 328 Lomita Drive, Stanford.

La Comida volunteer opportunities
The La Comida Senior Lunch Program has various volunteer opportunities available, including helping to welcome and serve seniors, translate, assist with special programs and do community outreach. Monday-Friday, year-round, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Free. La Comida Main Dining Room, Avenidas Center, 450 Bryant St., Palo Alto.

For the Love of Dance classes
For the Love of Dance offers training in ballet, jazz, tap and other styles of dance. Serving Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos and Sunnyvale, it is a family-owned studio that teaches dance to children and adults at all levels of ability. Art Galleries

'From the Ground Up'
Artists Martha Castillo and Trevlyn Williams will have new works on display at Gallery House, which are inspired by the colors, textures and light of California's natural landscapes.
